Two strong races at Paul Ricard started the Formula Renault Eurocup season for Red Bull Junior Neil Verhagen and netted him valuable points. The 17-year-old American cut his way through in both 30 minute races at the French round, passing seven cars in a thrilling drive on Sunday.
"Yes I enjoyed the races, on Saturday I was a little conservative, stayed calm, wanted to get some points on the board to start the season but today I went for it all out and really had a good time making some moves and getting up through the field," he enthused.
"Through testing we knew that our long run pace was pretty good so we knew I could do something when it came to the race but we have to improve on that one lap in Qualifying so I don't have to do so much overtaking. The truth is that I think we struggled here with set-up more than we will at other circuits, with the repaving especially we just didn't have it quite right but we improved through the weekend."
"Ricard is likely to be our worst track of the season and still we managed to work around the problems so I think we will be in good shape at the next races."
"In today's race I knew that I had a good car, it's stable and predictable. I was able to concentrate on making zero mistakes, stay calm and not let the others get in my head. Let them make the mistakes and also be able to make make some good moves and take some risks when it was the right thing to do."
"So I was happy with the races and we will work on the one lap pace so we can get places on the grid and bring home some hardware from the next races. I'm looking forward to it," concluded Verhagen.
