Pierre Gasly Monaco 2016

GP2 - First time but nothing new for Gasly in Baku

#21 Pierre Gasly (FRA – Prema Dallara-Mecachrome)
GP2 Series: 4th – 33 points – after 4 of 22 races

Pierre Gasly is ready for the new challenge of Baku in Azerbaijan and races 5 and 6 in the GP2 series. The 20-year-old Frenchman is fully prepared but knows very well that there is a lot of work to do this weekend.

"It's new for everyone of course so it is going to be very important to gather as much data as quickly as possible during practice. I have been in the sim at Red Bull Racing and they seem to have a really great track model but as far as surface goes, the grip and the degradation of course there is no information so I will only find about that it a couple of days," grinned the Red Bull Junior.

No changes

Speaking from Paul Ricard on Wednesday morning where he was waiting for the rain to stop to start some none GP2 testing Gasly pointed out that there was no reason for change after the disappointing Monaco.

"Our problems were not related to performance, the speed was there, without the mistakes we would have been racing at the front. There is no need for us to change anything, we have been competitive from the start of the year, myself and the team, we know that if we do our jobs correctly we will be there."

A good plan

"A characteristic of GP2 is that you have to put it all together and make no mistakes. We have a good strategy for practice, to put in as many laps as possible to get all the data we need. I will probably be leaving a bit more of a margin than I did in Monaco and concentrate on getting the information.

"We know that we don't need anything magic, we have everything we need and we've known that since preseason testing. We put it all together with no mistakes and we will be racing at the front."

A bad plan

At times it is tough combining testing and other work as well as the GP2 campaign. "First I have to get there though, I have a perfect schedule," Gasly laughed. "My first flight is tonight at 6.40 but I don't get there until 5 in the morning!"
