#5 Niko Kari (FIN – Arden)
Qualifying: 6th – Race 1 Grid: 6th – Race 1 Result: 5th
Race 2 Reverse Grid: 4th – Race 2 Result: 3rd
GP3 Championship position: 10th – 20 points – after 6 of 16 races
Finally Niko Kari was able to show a good portion of his true potential with two fine drives into 5th and 3rd at Silverstone. The 17-year-old Finn jumped to 10th in the GP3 points table and the Red Bull Junior's campaign is fully underway.
"A really good weekend," enthused Kari who was 6th fastest in Free Practice. "We showed that we had moved forwards from the start of the weekend, the team have certainly improved the way that we manage the tyre situation, we had a pretty good run in qualifying, it can always be better but it put us in a reasonable position for Race 1.
Good and then great
"In Race 1 we were a little bit unlucky with the restart after the virtual safety car, that didn't go well and cost me a fourth place but we'll learn from that."
"Then today a really good race to take third, great to be running up the front and getting the results that our pace deserves," stated Kari who defended superbly from more experienced drivers in the closing stages to claim his first GP3 podium.
"We avoided the bad luck we had in the opening rounds and the biggest difference was in how the team managed the tyres, handled qualifying, made big improvements with warm up procedure and that sort of thing. That has been very important plus other improvements all round, we are clearly now going in the right direction, we can keep improving of course, we need to win but we are now going in that direction."
