#15 Pierre Gasly (FRA – Team Mugen Honda HR-417E)
Super Formula championship: 14th – 1 point – after 3 of 9 races
Pierre Gasly's Super Formula campaign in Japan continues this weekend in Fuji and the 21-year-old Frenchman believes that the hard wok that he and the Mugen Honda team have been putting in should start to pay off.
"I am here for the third weekend of the season. It's a track that I know," explained the Red Bull Junior having arrived on Wednesday afternoon. "We had a test at beginning of year, it was certainly positive, I was 3rd fastest overall so we have a good baseline here, we know where to start."
Better slow than fast
"It's more of a top speed place which doesn't give us an advantage, the longest straight of the year and we are a bit down on speed. That might not be our favourite section but the final sector is very different, technical and slow so we should be able to make up time there."
Better wet than dry
"The weather could be an important part of the weekend, some storms are forecast, we'll see what happens but rain would be good for us, it will reduce the effect of the engine deficit a bit. We had a wet morning during the preseason test and I felt really good on the rain tyres so that could help us. Wet or dry we are looking to carry on working and improving and get some good points this weekend."
