#22 Richard Verschoor (NED – Giles Motorsport Tatuus Toyota)
Toyota Racing Series Championship position: 1st – 398 points – after 6 of 15 races
After Richard Verschoor took a superb two wins and a second place in the variable weather of Teretonga there is the prospect of a sunny three days at Hampton Downs in the North Island of New Zealand this weekend for the third round of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series.
The 16-year-old Red Bull Junior leads the points table by 58 but knows that he will need every morsel of his growing skill and experience to build on that over the remaining nine races. He already has a great relationship with the Giles Motorsport team and a good understanding of the Tatuus Toyota but Hampton Downs is another new circuit.
Thursday started again with two sessions of free practice and the series leader was quickly on the pace. "Yes not too bad, P2 and P5 in the two sessions today. I didn't expect to be P2 in the first session. It's great when it goes like that, it takes the pressure off, you can learn the circuit completely without having to push too much and work on setting up the car."
"We had a bit of a brake problem that we sorted out in the last few laps of the second session so I'm not worried about tomorrow. I'm really enjoying the track, a lot of ups and downs and good hairpins, I like hairpins," he added with the typical broad smile."
Summer finally seems to have arrived in New Zealand but Richard is not overly thrilled about it. "I like normal weather but I love racing in the rain." stated the youngster who has already been named 'the rain master' in New Zealand.
