Verhagen right back in the groove at the Hockenheimring

#21 Neil Verhagen (USA – Tech 1 Renault)
Qualifying 1: 3rd (Group B) – Race 1 Grid: 7th (PEN) – Race 1 Result: 7th
Qualifying 2: 2nd (Group B) – Race 2 Grid: 4th – Race 2 Result: 6th
Formula Renault Eurocup position: 12th – 47 points – after 18 of 20 races

Neil Verhagen walked out of the Formula Renault Eurocup wilderness and back into contention at the Hockenheimring. The 17-year-old American was second fastest in his group in Qualifying 2 but typically, as a racer he still wants more.

"We still need to find something to go for pole," explained the Red Bull Junior. "We improved the car through the weekend, the team worked very hard, we all did but we are still looking for a bit more."

"I have an idea where it might be and we will be going through the data of course and I hope we have it worked out before the final weekend."

Better all the way

"I wasn't so thrilled with the car in practice but overnight the team made changes and for qualifying it was certainly better." explained the Tech 1 driver who was 20th in the first collective test and 13th in the second.

"It's a shame I got a grid penalty that I didn't agree with and that didn't help for Race 1. In both races I had to do too much defending on the straights instead of being able to concentrate on the best lines for lap time and passing people in front. Otherwise the results would have been better. So that is something that we need to sort out."

"I think I got the maximum out of the car this weekend and it was great to have a good feeling in it again, for things to make sense. So we need to keep moving forwards. Thanks to the team for all the improvements, these last weeks have not been easy for any of us," stated Verhagen who looks forward to the final two races of the season in Barcelona Catalunya on October 20th and 21st.
