Autopolis Super Formula action for Ticktum and Auer

Super Formula Championship position: 8th – 1 point – after 1 of 7 races

Red Bull Juniors Dan Ticktum and Lucas Auer weathered a difficult start to their Super Formula campaigns at Suzuka a month ago. The Honda Formula Dream Project drivers are ready to take a step forward this weekend with another single race at Autopolis.

Lucas Auer

"We are certainly a lot better prepared for this weekend than we were for Suzuka," asserted the 24-year-old Austrian. "It was as we expected, it was a new situation for us all and everyone learnt then and we have done more work since."

"The car will be better and I will be better, I have not been on the actually track but we have a very good sim of course and I like the circuit after spending some time working on it."

"We know the opposition will also have stepped forward but I hope that in answering a lot of the question marks we had at Suzuka and understanding each other better as a team, then we should be more competitive," added Auer whose team is a blend of B-Max and Motopark staff.

"The weather forecast is for us to have quite a lot of rain around and that can mix things up so perhaps we can take advantage of that too."

Dan Ticktum

The British 19-year-old was not happy with his first Japanese race of the year. "We know that we need to improve our pace over the first weekend in Suzuka, we found a few things that we believe are going to help us, I don't want to say what but if we can get the tyres working better on the car it will make a big difference to how competitive we are."

"Other than that I just want to get there and get on with it, not talk it up. I have tested an F3 car in the rain there the other day so at least I know which way it goes but that's about it."

It is a busy week for Ticktum who flies to Japan after Wednesday's F1 test with Red Bull Racing. The Mugen Honda driver is not concerned about swapping cars. "No, not in terms of driving the car, the travelling, that can be a bit of an issue but to be honest I don't like getting there too early anyway so it should be fine. I feel it's a case of - have a coffee in the morning and get on with it."
