#5 Niko Kari (FIN – Arden)
GP3 Championship position: 10th – 28 points – after 10 of 16 races
#14 Dan Ticktum (GBR – Dams)
GP3 Championship position: 0 points – debut after 10 of 16 races
Niko Kari continues his GP3 campaign at Monza this weekend and the 17-year-old Finn is joined by fellow Red Bull Junior Dan Ticktum. The 18-year-old Briton adds the last three rounds of GP3 to his Formula Renault Eurocup season.
Kari makes Monza debut
"I've no experience of Monza," explains Kari. "It's nice to go there for the first time and I'm really looking forward to it, feeling no pressure. I like Italian tracks, they are old school and Monza is a real classic. It's a simple one but at the same time it's difficult."
"Of course we run a lot less downforce in the car, there are a lot of overtaking oportunities on the straights so we need as much straight line speed as possible. That's going to be one of the key things and I think that running the car with low downforce will be fine for me, should suit my driving style quite well."
"We've been improving car quite a bit and we're confident of getting a good set up. Plus last year Arden cars ran well there, so it all looks positive and I'm very much looking forward to a good weekend."
Ticktum's GP3 debut
"It's a very exciting time, I'm so looking forward to it," enthused Ticktum. "It's a big thing to get into a car at a race weekend that you've not driven. I've been at Dams all this week talking to the team, fitting the car and trying the sim but it's a tall order. I guess the biggest obvious difference is that the GP3 car has about 220 more horsepower than the 2 litre Renault, that will take some getting used to."
"I have driven an F3 car so I know what downforce feels like but really I have no idea what it will be like when I get out on the track in the GP3 car. I got on well running in the sim but the real thing is always different. I'm quietly confident but not setting any goals, just a question of settling in and learning."
