It was a dramatic weekend for Red Bull Junior Jack Doohan in Dubai. Another Asian F3 victory for the 16-year-old Australian in Race 1, then a storming drive in the wet Race 2 fighting back from 12th to 3rd. Going for the lead in Race 3 the Pinnacle Motorsport driver came together with his opponent and dropped to 13th, this time finishing 11th with a damaged car.

With inspired driving and excellent race pace, the second round of the series again showed Doohan as a great challenger for the title. "We can certainly take some great positives away from the weekend," enthused the Ozzie.

"In Qualifying we didn't quite have the one lap pace we wanted but we were close enough and confident that we had some good race pace. In Race 1 I made a good start, got up to P2 quite quickly. I didn't want to wreck the tyres early so was happy to run P2. I made a mistake and lost a bit but it was no trouble to come back and on the last lap I knew I had a good advantage over Sasahara."

"I was looking for a way past and we had a bit of a messy incident in the final sector but managed to take the win. The stewards saw that we were both partly to blame and I kept the win."

Pace wet and dry

"Race 2 was wet and I got a lot of wheelspin off the line. It was strange, my grid slot seemed to have a lot of rubber, I just didn't go anywhere. I dropped back to 12th but in the second half of the race we really had pace, the car was working well and once I found space I could lap a couple of seconds quicker than anyone."

"By the end of the race the car was in its element and I passed 2 on the final lap to take 3rd."

In the wrong place

"I had a good start again in Race 3, got into third then took 2nd around the outside in turn 3. I was running P2 and the car was working well. I had the advantage on Hughes and set him up for the pass into Turn 1."

"He didn't defend on the run down to the corner, I went past inside and as I did so he turned into me, hit my rear and spun me around. It's a shame he did that, he has been penalised for the next race."

"I was back to 13th by the time I got going again, I made up a couple of places but with a bit of car damage and tyre degradation I couldn't do any more."

"So we didn't come away with all the points we should have but it was good to have the win, the podiums and the pace. I have just got to stay out of the way of the Hitech cars next time," concluded Doohan with his trademark smile.
