Patricio O’Ward takes on Super Formula duties in Japan

Patricio O'Ward will now campaign the Super Formula championship in Japan for the Mugen Honda team. The 20-year-old Mexican Red Bull Junior has been contesting the road course IndyCar events for Carlin and is driving in the FIA F2 race for MP Motorsport at the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend.

"Dr. Helmut Marko spoke to me about an hour ago," explained O'Ward on Friday morning in Spielberg. "He explained that he would like for me to do the remaining Super Formula rounds in Japan as well as possibly some more F2 races if that can be arranged."

"It is a huge opportunity of course and I'm very excited about it. I know that it will be a big challenge. Like coming here this weekend I do not know the tracks in Japan or the car but there is more track time in a race weekend I believe. I know that culture and communications are different and the series is at a very high level so it is a fantastic chance for me to learn and progress."

Round 4 of the Super Formula series is at Fuji Speedway on July 13th & 14th, there are a total of seven rounds in the series. Dan Ticktum is no longer part of the Red Bull Junior Team. "At this level the demands are intense," explained Dr. Helmut Marko. "Unfortunately Dan has not found the success in the Super Formula series that we hoped for."
