Patricio O’Ward toughs it out at Road America in IndyCar

#31 Patricio O'Ward (MEX – Carlin Chevrolet)
Qualifying: 13th Grid: 13th – Race Result: 17th
IndyCar Championship position: 22nd – 115 points – after 10 of 17 races (contesting only selected events)

Not an easy IndyCar event for the Mexican Red Bull Junior at Road America. Patricio O'Ward was hoping for a wet weekend and success in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin but the sun shone and fortune did not smile on the 20-year-old.

"It was a tough race," explained the Carlin driver. "It was difficult to follow people and try to get around them. When we got close and lost aero the car was really physically hard to drive so it was a long race."

"It's a real shame because we expected so much more coming into the weekend. Earlier, in practice we were looking at the top ten but we never improved from there. We tried so many things but never found the improvement we needed, never found the right direction and a good balance."

"I expected we should improve for qualifying and for the race but we couldn't make it happen and we slipped back in qualifying and then in the race. So we struggled, especially when we got close to another car in the fast sections where the aero is so important," explained O'Ward.
