Pierre Gasly

Super Formula - Gasly chases the championship to Suzuka

#15 Pierre Gasly (FRA – Team Mugen Honda HR-417E)
Super Formula championship: 2nd – 33 points – after 7 of 9 races

Just half a point separates Red Bull Junior Pierre Gasly from the top of the Super Formula championship table going into the final weekend, with two races at Suzuka to decide the series. The 21-year-old Frenchman has two wins and a second place from the last three races, netting double the points haul of Hiroaki Ishiura, the driver ahead of him in the rankings.

Of course Gasly contested the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka for Scuderia Toro Rosso and is looking forward to the quick return. "It comes down to two things really; firstly it is really good to be driving at Suzuka again after racing there just two weeks ago. But then secondly it will take me a few laps to get used to the Super Formula car again, so that I have to do in the opening laps of Free Practice."

Just a tenth or two more

"I am very excited about this weekend, just half a point in it so whoever does the best will be champion. I am certainly going to be doing everything to take the title. With the team we have all been working better and better together and we have the momentum but we know Suzuka will not be easy."

"There is a long straight and we are still a bit short on speed so it could be a bit tough. We still need to keep improving and we can still do better in qualifying, last time we were just a tenth from pole and we need to be starting at the front. Like just about everywhere it is hard to pass at Suzuka in a Super Formula car so we have to get qualifying right."

"We have a good car for the race, we've shown that. If we can make a step with qualifying we will have a good chance of the title," concluded Gasly.
