Niko Kari took an excellent second in Race 1 at the Norisring and Sérgio Sette Câmara took third in the final race after a tough Saturday at the classic venue. It was typically dramatic event on the streets of Nuremberg with a large number of incidents and the two Red Bull Juniors suffered three DNFs between them.
Kari, the 16-year-old Fin, was fastest in the second Free Practice session on Friday, showing how quickly he was getting to grips with the tight bumpy circuit on his first visit. "Yes I liked the track, I got on with it from the start, it suits my driving style. We had the car working well and we should have had a good qualifying but I made a few mistakes and that cost us grid positions."
Race 1 success
"I just concentrated on not making any mistakes and making progress," explained Kari. "It worked and it was a good result. The rest of the weekend should have been as good but I got caught in accidents in Races 2 and 3. Race 2 I finished but in the last race I was hit from a long way back, never saw it coming at all."
"So that was a shame, the car was good all weekend and the possibility was there for good finishes. We changed the car a little for the last race just to try something but I never really got the chance to see how good it was," concluded the Motopark driver.
Race 3 success
A great third in Race 3 for Sette Câmara did a lot to make up for an unlucky weekend but it could have been even better. "It was good to be on the podium but we had the pace to do more," explained the 18-year-old Brazilian. "The Motopark guys gave us great cars again this weekend we all had pace. Unfortunately something happened to my rear wing in the third race after the restart and instead of downforce it was working like an aeroplane otherwise I would certainly have had a go at the first two."
It was an incident filled race in an incident filled weekend and fortune had not smiled on Sette Câmara. "The speed was there but in Race 1 I clipped another car, not a big thing but I picked up a puncture, I didn't realise it and suddenly the front left had no grip and I slid into another car. The stewards gave me a 5 place penalty for Race 2 so when I should have been starting third I was P8. It is too easy to get into trouble back there and that is what happened," explained Sette Câmara.
