The two Red Bull Juniors were fighting for karting glory on both sides of the Atlantic in August with Harry Thompson picking up a superb second in the CIK OK European Championship while Jonny Edgar found his success in the US.

Chasing the European Championship, Thompson turned fourteen on the day of the last round in Essay, France on August 5th. He had left the previous round in Germany, seventh in the points chase.

The young Briton had a great event in Essay, with second place in the final lifting him to second in the final points table. "I know I didn't look very happy on the podium and of course I did want to win it but I was happy inside, it was a great weekend, I really enjoyed it," enthused Harry who had also won four of the five heats.

"I was chasing him as hard as I could but he got a gap and I couldn't close it. The good guys are just so consistent and that is something that I am working on myself. Not that I have a problem but I know that you've got to be perfect all the time."

"We are working to improve every time we go out, also working on the kart so we know how to set it up for the different tracks, different conditions so that we can get on top of it as soon as possible."

Getting as much track time and experience as they can, Thompson and the Ricky Flynn Motorsport squad took in a round of the Swedish Championship in Kristianstad. They had another excellent weekend, winning the third heat and Pre Final A then taking second in the Final.

"Yes we had a good weekend there as well. We are not doing the championship but that is where the World Final is at the end of September so it was good to see what the track is like. I really enjoyed it so I think that will be a big help with our preparation."

Edgar takes them on across the pond

Highlight of Jonny Edgar's August was a great week in America for the USA Pro Tour SummerNationals finals at the New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana.

The 14-year-old Briton was contesting the X30 Senior seniors class in a very similar kart to that he races in Europe. "We got the kart there but it is just like the one we race in Europe, the class is a little different so the engine is not quite as powerful but still a lot of fun."

"We had a great time, it was warm and the track was good but with two long straights and that made it hard to get clear of anyone. They were in the slipstream all the way and when one came past they could tow others with them. It was double meeting with finals on Saturday and Sunday."

"On Saturday I won the second Prefinal and started the Final on the front row. It was a great race and I managed to take second at the end. In Sunday's final, I was leading for 19 out of 25 laps but then got passed out of the slipstream and ended up fourth," explained Edgar. "I guess I won overall for the weekend." Very impressive from a field of 78 drivers.
