After some super smooth winning weekends, Dennis Hauger had to grab whatever he could at Zandvoort in a difficult ADAC F4 event in the Netherlands. The Red Bull Junior finally fought his way through from P17 to a satisfying sixth in Race 3 with podium pace.

"It was a strange weekend," explained the 16-year-old Norwegian who was second quickest in FP2. "That started in Q2 when it was wet, we are usually quick in those conditions but not this time, I was the quickest of our team but we were well off from where we should be."

"Q2 was better, the track was drying and it was a case of adapting to the conditions with the wet tyres and I was quite happy with P3," added the Van Amersfoort Racing driver.

Slow stop

"In Race 1 everyone except one driver started on wets but the track was quickly drying so we all needed to pit early for slicks. We just didn't get the stop right, mine was the second slowest and the race was over right there really. I was a lap behind. We'll learn from that as a team, that's the way it goes."

"I managed to unlap myself and a late safety car put us all back closer together. The car pulled in with just a lap to go and in that lap I passed six cars, good fun but it only gave us two points."

Fast pace

"This morning I started P3 and we had good pace. I was checking out the weak points of the driver ahead and worked out I could get through on the brakes into turn one. So I went for it and he just moved over and turned into me which is against the rules. He put me on the grass and I spun. He got a drive through penalty for it but that didn't help me. I got the fastest lap but I finished P17 which is where I started Race 3 this afternoon."

"I got a good start and again we had pace but it is so hard to pass here. With the slower guys I could get through, taking any mistake they made or any chance I got. But once I got into the top eight it really was hard work and it was quite something to get up to sixth."

"If there was just a bit more of a chance to pass the pace should have put us on the podium. So knowing we had the pace to do it was good but still frustrating."
