Harry Thompson (GBR – Ricky Flynn Motorsport – OK)
#120 CIK OK European Championship position: 7th – 35 points after 3 of 4 events
Jonny Edgar (GBR – Forza Racing – OK)
#119 CIK OK European Championship position: 30th – 0 points after 3 of 4 events
There is nothing more intense than the competition in the CIK OK European Championship and Red Bull Juniors Harry Thompson and Jonny Edgar have been right in the middle of it. The Britons also featured very strongly in the WSK Open Cup round at Lonato in Italy and Harry is dominating the German Kart Championship.
"I've really enjoyed the racing," explains 13-year-old Harry. "I've been to a lot of new tracks for me so I've learnt a lot and the team have been doing a great job. Of course we've had some frustrations but that's racing."
Some great wins
"The British CIK European Championship round was like that," continues Thompson. "A bit frustrating with some technical issues but the last round in Ampfing was much better, we were really competitive, only in the final I had too much tyre wear in the front, I was pushing very hard and going into the corners just wore the tyres too much and that cost me a bit in the final result."
"I've done some other races in the German Championship and I've won the first three rounds in the series. That's good practice for me and it is a very competitive championship."
"We were in Italy for the WSK Open Cup at Lonato and I qualified top. Unfortunately we had a technical problem in the final and I couldn't finish but we know we had the pace. We are testing for three days in France this week so I'm looking forward to that."
Some great speed but missing some points
Edgar was very unlucky not to score points in the CIK OK European Championship, he was involved in a couple of incidents in the British round that kept him out of the results then in Ampfing, Germany he ended the weekend 16th. It was a frustrating end to an event where he was very competitive. "Qualifying and the heats were going quite well," explains the 14-year-old. "I had a couple of fourth places but then in the last heat the water pump bracket broke and I had to stop. So I started the final back in 20th. I got up to 16th but just out of the points."
"The weekend after that I raced in Italy at Garda in the WSK Open Cup, a lot of the European Championship drivers were there and it was a good weekend. I qualified 4th overall. In the first heat I started 8th but that's on the outside, not a good place to be on that track so I got pushed back and had to work my way up to 8th again. In the second heat the engine broke, then in the third I started at the back, was fighting my way forward and crashed."
"So in the pre-final I started 26th but finished 7th. In the final I was 7th on the grid and finished 6th."
The CIK OK European Championship concludes with the French round in Essay on August 5th, Harry Thompson's 14th birthday.
